Burnley have been given the chance to take down a big club when they were drawn against Spurs in the Carling Cup Quarter Final draw. So far, Burnley have knocked out Fulham, Chelsea and Arsenal in their quest to win the trophy.

Manchester United were left to play Derby County in the other semi final. Derby did actually claim a Premier League scalp in the shape of Stoke City in the last round as did Manchester United. Derby beating Stoke and United 5-3 victors over Blackburn Rovers.

The matches will be played in the weeks beginning 5 and 19 January 2009. The final takes place at Wembley on Sunday, 1 March.....Back To Home Page...Bookmark and Share

Burnley In Chase For Manchester United Defender

Manchester United's Scottish full back David Gray is wanted by Burnley boss Owen Coyle.

Gray was born on 4 May 1988 in Edinburgh. He came up through the ranks at Hearts until he was sixteen and was then signed by Manchester United for £50,000. He has also had a spell with Crewe Alexandra. Gray has also been a part of the Scotland Under-21 squad.

Two years ago Gray broke into the reserve team, being used mainly at right-back, coming from the bench. On 25 October 2006, Gray made his debut for the senior team in a League Cup match against Crewe Alexandra. He started the game at right-back, but late in the second half, he was substituted for Kieran Lee who went on to score the winning goal in extra time.

In January 2007, he was sent on loan to Royal Antwerp, who are a 'feeder' club for Manchester United, hence a lot of our reserves and youngsters end up with a Dutch spell in their United career. However, after just two games, he suffered an injury which sidelined him for the rest of the season. In November 2007, he again went on loan, this time to Crewe Alexandra for a month, as cover for the club's injured players.....Back To Home Page...Bookmark and Share

Manchester United To Play Blackburn In Carling Cup Quarter Final

The draw for the quarter-finals of the
League Cup was made on Saturday.
Manchester United have been handed
a home draw against Paul Ince's team
Blackburn Rovers. The bookies now
make United favourites to lift the trophy.

Blackburn reached the last eight after a 2-1 win at
Sunderland and will travel to Old Trafford in the
week beginning December 1st.

Burnley, who recorded a miraculous win against
Chelski at Stamford Bridge have been rewarded
with a home tie against Arsenal, Derby travel to
Stoke city and Watford are at home to Spurs.

According to the bookmakers Manchester United
are now favourites to win the Carling Cup with a
best priced 15/8 with Ladbrokes. They have
Arsenal second favourites 2/1, holders Tottenham
are third best at 3/1.

United and Blackburn have met in this competition
on four occasions - United claiming two wins with
two draws. The last meeting was in the 2006 semi-
final with United claiming a 1-1 draw at Ewood Park
in the first-leg, before edging the second contest by
two-goals-to-one.

The full draw is as follows:

Stoke City v. Derby County
Manchester United v. Blackburn Rovers
Burnley v. Arsenal
Watford v. Spurs

Fergie Not Worried But Eagles Is

It would seem Fergie is not too stressed out if he buys another player or
not this summer.

Having landed the Premier League and the Champions League, some
would agree with him. If it isn't broke, don't fix it as the saying goes.

"We did a lot of stocking up last summer, buying four players of
good ages as part of a policy of
bringing in footballers who
could develop, and we think there is further progress there,"
I had 23 players in Moscow and they will still be there for this

season because we are
happy with the squad. It is difficult for us to buy and
improve on that because we know why
clubs don't want to sell their best players
and we don't either."

Chris Eagles has been pondering his future with United. Having spent a season out on load to
Burnley last year, it seems Burnley are keen to sign him for another year.

He has doubts about this though, as he told the Lancashire Evening Post:

"I'd love to stay at Old Trafford and make my career as a United player, but I need
to think
about playing regularly.

"There have been talks with Premier League and Championship clubs, but
nothing's been
decided.

"It's difficult because I want to play every week, whether I leave United or stay at
United. If I
think I'm going to get a chance here then I'd love to stay. If not, maybe
I have to look
somewhere else.

"I'll speak to the gaffer over the next week or so and see what happens. There are
all sorts of
options available.
