Giggs, 35, is coming towards the end of his latest one-year rolling contract and recently suggested he could retire at the end of the season.
But Ferguson is hoping the offer of a new contract will persuade the former Wales international to extend his record-breaking Old Trafford career.
Giggs is the club's all-time leading appearance maker after 19 years in the first team.
"Ryan will be offered a new contract of course. He has been fantastic for us this season - he seems to be getting even better with age," Ferguson told the Sunday Mirror.
"He could win the footballer of the year award and it would be fitting if he did after the career he has had.
