Manchester United And Chelsea Chase Diego Lopez

manchester united blog transfers diego lopez villarealManchester United and Chelsea lock horns on Sunday but there is already a battle going on between the two as they both chase the signature of Villarreal Spanish keeper Diego Lopez.

Apparently, the two foes won't miss a chance to compete with each other on pitch or off pitch, and the Daily Star says the 27 year old is the new episode of their ongoing soap opera.

Lopes is valued at around £12 million, subject to increase if both sides begin a public 'auction' for him, although it looks like Chelsea are only teasing United on this one, as they already have Cech, Cudicini and Hilario. United on the other hand have the aging Van der Saar close to his retirement date and no capable substitute unless we can trust Tomas Kuzsczak or Ben Foster, which would make me nervous to say the least, thus the need to sign Lopez, who has impressed Sir Alex Ferguson during the two goalless draws against between Villarreal and Man Utd in this season's CL groups stage.

Diego López Rodríguez was born November 3rd, 1981 in Paradela, Lugo, Galicia. He is a youth graduate from Real Madrid and served as backup to Iker Casillas from 2005-07. In the closing stages of his days at Madrid, he appeared in two back-to-back away wins, against CA Osasuna (as Casillas was sent off) and Racing de Santander, adding a UEFA Champions League contest at Olympiakos FC, in a 1-2 defeat.

Following a second season where he was restricted to cup matches, in July 2007, López joined Villareal CF for a report fee of €6 million. He started the season as second-choice, to Uruguayan Sebastian Vierra but, after a string of fine performances (he played in the domestic and UEFA Cups), he was awarded first-team action, finishing the season with 20 appearances.....Back To Home Page...Bookmark and Share
