Redknapp Jumps On The Moaners Bandwagon

Every football site I go on today is full of the usual nonsense. People up in arms about how Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson bribe the referees and have the FA in their pocket to the extent that the FA bend over backwards to do everything Sir Alex wants. Hey, maybe he is even bribing them too.

Now Harry Redknapp is blaming Howard Webb, yesterdays referee in United's 5-2 win against Spurs. Apparently, it is down to the referee that United went on a five goal spree. If Webb had not given the penalty decision, then United wouldn't have scored five and won. What a load of old horse excrement.

"The referee made a terrible mistake," said Redknapp. "The players can't believe it because it changed the face of the game."

He added: "United were not going to win unless something like that happened."

Redknapp challenged Webb after the final whistle, although he got nothing better than the offer of an apology if the FA Cup final referee had got it wrong.

"You should have technology," he said. "The fourth official should be watching the TV monitor and talking to the referee.

"The guy has not done it on purpose, it is just a bad decision but it was the turning point."
Where were all these moaners and complainers last week when Manchester United were denied a penalty in the FA Cup Semi Final against Everton. That would have seen them get to Wembley for the Cup Final and the quintuple would still be a target for us. Did you hear me moan and complain endlessly because the decision went against us. No you didn't. Shit happens and you have to live with it. Last week we lost out because of a bad refs decision, this week maybe we got a good decision in our favour. We went from the swings to the roundabout.

For Redknapp to declare "United were NOT going to win unless something like that happened" is just plain madness, how does he know?

Unfortunately, we need to stick to the real world and look at things in an equal light. Sometimes you get good decisions and sometimes you get a bad one. One thing never changes though, and that's the continual bickering against United because they are successful. One day maybe Liverpool will win the Premier League title, what a dreadful thought, but they will then face the venom and criticism of everyone. Succes in Britain isn't celebrated, it is decried and every effort is made to find a reason why these successful teams don't deserve their success. People should try enjoying football instead of getting tangled up in jealousy and constant bizarre ideas of corruption and other such shite.

I thought that united were excellent, after the penalty. What cost us yesterday was a bad decision, but we were still 2-1 up. The next 2 minutes were a disaster. SAFs decision to add Tevez into the mix really changed the game. I am not sure what has happened to Berbatov. He played ok, but not great. A couple of nice passes, but I would want more for £30m. His goal was a scrappy nag of an effort, when he should have buried it with assured confidence.

If you let Tevez go in the summer, you are barking mad.

It was a bad decision, no doubt, but if you do get a bad decision, you have to get on with it. We gave Rooney the freedom of our right hand side and paid for it.

well united were bound to score after that start in the second half, the penalty was just the starter of what was coming behind. spurs were not really in the match in the second half, they lacked concentration, while united were already in 5th gear.

i still believe we need technology.

not because united-spurs match, but it's for the fairness in the game.

reff did mistakes and sometimes,it's cost so much.

howard webb are absolute f*cker when lionel messi received yellow card when bayern munich defender pull him down on penalties.webb accuses messi a diver, which he didn't.

it's a must for camera technology.for the good of the game.

You said how does Harry Redknapp know that Utd wouldn't have won had they not got that penalty? Fair point.
BUT..how do you know that Utd have still won had the not got that penalty?
The longer that game goes at 2-0 the greater the chance Spurs would have won.
The first goal is vital, and at that point Spurs were still comfortable. They started the second half ok. That goal changed the whole game, no matter what anyone says.
However, the way they collapsed was embarrasing.
I personally think Utd would have won penalty or not, as the game was slowly changing, but you just don't know and that was certainly a massive helping hand (excuse the pun). It flipped the game on it's head there and then.
People go on about these decisions as they have happened time and time again over the last 10-15 years. More than any other team (it seems that way at least). Their manager is always trying to influence things any way he can and the massive song and dance he made about the penalty decision v Everton probably influenced Webb. He felt pressure. He felt he had to give it. Didn't even consult his linesman.
The initimidation of referees over the years by Messers Keane and co.
It just winds people up the wrong way and that's the reason people question these referees loyalties.

Point taken, but to say that Fergie bribes refs and that he has the FA in his pocket etc etc is just bordering on insanity. Why do United get more penalty decisions than others? That's an easy one to answer. Where does the ball spend the majority of it's time when teams come to Old Trafford? In the oppositions half and in the opposing teams 18 yard box. United put teams under extreme pressure in and around the box for long periods. It's common sense that penaltiers will result from this pressure. Rarely does a team come to Old Trafford and put United under sustained pressure in their own area. One exception was this season when Liverpool came and put United under the cosh. Result - they won a penalty. If you can come to Old Trafford and keep United pinned back in their own half and sustain it, you will win penalties, but very very few teams are capable of that.

That's true. Most teams go to Old Trafford with a negative attitude and are beaten before they even go on the pitch. This happens in Madrid, Barcelona, Glasgow and Milan too.
Even Aston Villa managed to adopt this attitude after 60 mins when winning!
Liverpool and Porto showed the way to play and that Vidic etc are not unbeatable, far from it.
Big teams do get more decisions in their favour than smaller teams though. All over the world. I used to live in Scotland for 24 years and the amount of horrendous decisions that Celtic and Rangers get is not even funny.
The bigger the club, the bigger the crowd, the higher profile the game, the pressure builds and referees do seem to buckle. The media don't help, especially all the cameras highlighting their mistakes.
The one gripe people have is the amount of penalties against Man Utd at OT. I can't remember the stat but wasn't Liverpool's the first in over 2 years or something? That's not normal! Other teams have home records just as good and don't have this sort of ratio.
Should be a good game against Arsenal as they will certainly attack.

P.S. Nice website, I should get a user name instead of anonymous!
