Dimitar Berbatov Called Up For Bulgaria

Having drawn three World Cup Qualifying games and then getting thrashed 6-1 in a friendly with Serbia, former Bulgarian boss Plamen Markov was swiftly shown the door and Stanimir Stoilov was given his old job back.

Bulgaria face Switzerland next week in a friendly match and Stoilov has immediately recalled five of his former international players that Markov had chosen to ignore, at his peril. Also called up for the match is Dimitar Berbatov but that goes without saying I guess.

Back in are central defenders Elin Topuzakov and Iliyan Stoyanov and left back Ivaylo Petkov. He also recalled midfielder Dimitar Telkiyski the youngster up front Valeri Domovchiyski.

Bulgaria are so far third in European qualifying Group Eight having drawn all their games so far and trail leaders Italy by seven points.

Squad From:

Goalkeepers: Georgi Petkov (Levski Sofia), Dimitar Ivankov (Bursaspor).

Defenders: Zhivko Milanov (Levski Sofia), Yordan Todorov (CSKA Sofia), Kiril Kotev (CSKA Sofia), Stanislav Manolev (Litex Lovech), Ivaylo Petkov (Litex Lovech), Elin Topuzakov (Apoel Tel Aviv), Iliyan Stoyanov (Sanfreche).

Midfielders: Stilian Petrov (Aston Villa), Stanislav Angelov (Energie Cottbus), Velizar Dimitrov (Metalurg Donetsk), Blagoy Georgiev (Terek Groznyi), Dimitar Telkiyski (Apoel Tel Aviv).

Strikers: Dimitar Berbatov (Manchester United), Dimitar Rangelov (Energie Cottbus), Valeri Domovchiyski (Hertha Berlin), Ivelin Popov (Litex Lovech).....Back To Home Page...Bookmark and Share

Micheal Shields Hoping For Justice Today

micheal shields liverpool bulgaria attempted murder trialMicheal Shields has his hearing today and his parents are to have a meeting with Jack Straw who DOES have the power to free him despite saying he doesn't. The Bulgarian Prime Minister has sent a memo to Mr Straw saying it is up to Britain whether or not he is freed.

I come from Eastern Europe and I will be the first to admit our court systems are dreadful. It stems from the communist era when they would grab the nearest person to the crime, try them and convict them, never mind the evidence and it happens today, though many will deny this.

I've read a lot about this case and it's clear to anyone with half a brain that Micheal is innocent.

Liverpool fan yes, I know, but at times like this he is a FOOTBALL fan first and foremost just like all of us......Micheal, You'll Never Walk Alone !!!

Any United fans who don't like this post then cast your minds back to the United fans, the "Roma Four" who were unfairly jailed in Italy. I saw hundreds and hundreds of Liverpool fans show support for them and some even sent donations to the fund !!!!

This is from the official website, go show support for the guy - MICHAEL SHIELDS will serve out the rest of his prison sentence in Britain after judges in Bulgaria agreed to reduce his 15-year prison sentence by five years but refused to order a full re-trial for his conviction of attacking a barman. Send your messages of support for Michael.

England Win But Who Cares, Let's All Slate Berbatov !!

manchester united berbatov unitedThe British media should be congratulated on the way they get a hold of something special, someone with talent and someone who can light up The Premier League and then proceed to strangle the life out of them. They bombard them with constant abuse and accusations, they look for the worst in EVERYTHING any player ever does and it continues relentlessly until finally the player gets pissed off and leaves for Europe. Then they complain about players with no commitment and no loyalty !! They do the same with the English national team. It only took the fans 38 minutes into Capello's very first game in charge for the booing to start !!

I read some rubbish on some site called Footylatest this morning and it made me laugh to be honest: I quote........"Dimitar Berbatov of Man Utd has again thrown his dummy out of his pram and this time has threatened to never play for his country again. Berbatov who sulked his way to a transfer out of Tottenham has decided that it is a policy that works for him and he will it seems continue with this strategy to get his own way or make a point. Berbatov has been blamed by his countrymen for Bulgaria’s drop in form and the 6-1 loss to Serbia has made the fans even angrier with the stars that play for Bulgaria in particular Berbatov, you can hardly blame them, cannot be easy to get stuffed 6-1 when you have players on the field valued at £30 million alone. One cannot help feel that if Berbatov is dropped at Man Utd or things go pear shaped that he will then again take up the sulking that has worked so well for him to date and make for a move to say Real Madrid. Once the character has been exposed there is no putting it back in the box."

Most amusing. England beat Germany last night which is a magnificent achievement and what do these "Footylatest" clowns choose to report on ? Some garbled nonsense on their psychiatric assessment of Dimitar Berbatov. Another example of how the media search for failure. They expect to fail, then they fail and then they complain because they failed, LMAO. I loved the comment "when you have players on the field valued at £30 million alone". Berbatov cost £30m the rest of the team between them are not worth that much !! Like I said, it's all deranged jibber jabber some people write these days !!! .....Back To Home Page.....

Berbatov Injured But Sir Bobby Thinks He's Not Up To Scratch Anyway !!

manchester united dimitar berbatov unitedHere's a sight we, as Manchester United fans, don't want to see. Dimitar Berbatov limping off the field clutching the back of his leg. This happened last night in Bulgaria's game with Serbia where they got thrashed 6-1. Savo Milosevic missed two penalties in the 5th and 15th minutes and also scored in the 29th and 34th minutes. He could have had 4 in the first half hour but oh well, he didn't. More concern is this Berbatov injuury, although we have adequate cover for him in Carlos Tevez it's not ideal for him to have a lengthy lay off with a hamstring injury at this time of the season. I for one think he is one of the best players in the world right now despite Sir Blobby Robson's cutting remarks about him after the Arsenal game.

Robson said: "You wouldn't have guessed on yesterday's performance that the Manchester United No 9 is the most expensive player in the club's illustrious history. Dimitar Berbatov is more talented than Arsenal's centre-forward Nicklas Bendtner, a deputy for Emmanuel Adebayor, but he was nowhere near as great a threat. But I do think Berbatov has to start justifying his £31million price tag if United are to get back on top and win a third successive title. Berbatov played too deep at Emirates Stadium and therefore wasn't a goal threat at all. He never looked like scoring and his record of one league goal in nine games for United suggests that has been a problem since he arrived from Spurs.

He doesn't look like the same player to me that thrilled us at Tottenham. Berbatov has shown some sublime touches at times, including that fantastic turn to set up a goal for Cristiano Ronaldo against West Ham. But a United No 9 has to provide goals as well, particularly as Sir Alex has had to leave out Carlos Tevez to accommodate him. I watched Berbatov drop back virtually to the halfway line at times yesterday, content to get a few touches of the ball and play some simple passes. I bet Arsenal were delighted to see him so deep because he wasn't going to hurt them from there. Berbatov is strong enough and skilful enough to hold the ball up and turn defenders where it counts - on the edge of the penalty area. So I don't know why he didn't stay 15 yards further up the field. Funnelling back out of the danger zone was an easy option."

I would imagine he played the way he did because Sir Alex Ferguson (the most succesful manager ever to walk the planet) told him to do so Mr Robson !! People slating Berbatov and the way he plays get right up my nose. I think Sir Blobby Robson should come forward and compare trophies won with Sir Alex and we'll see who knows best !! .....Back To Home Page.....

Berbatov Is A Man After My Own Heart With Generosity For Children

From: The Daily Mirror

At three and a half, little Dimitar practises keepy-uppys with a basketball outside his parents' apartment - they could not afford a football.

Inside the modest two bedroom council flat where Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov was born, his mother Margarita winces when she recalls life in grim communist-era 1980s Bulgaria.

"When Dimitar was very small he broke the cabinet by accident because he used to kick a basketball around the apartment," she said. "We couldn't afford to buy him a football.

"When he grew up we had a tough life but he never complained.

Dimitar always had enough to eat and was happy playing football."

The picture above shows Berbatov, then three, playing football with an outsized basketball in a dusty, cratered backyard.

The new star of Old Trafford recognises how hard life was in his early days, even having to queue for bread for up to eight hours: "We would get in line at six in the morning, and if you lost your place you had to go to the back."

Berbatov showed a single-minded approach to the game from an early age. His mum said: "Dimitar has no interest in a fancy lifestyle.

His life is football, family and friends. He can travel anywhere in the world, but he tells me he prefers Bulgaria to Barbados."

The £30.75million striker admitted: "I miss it in some ways. I had my friends, and the conditions united and strengthened you. My personality has been shaped by my upbringing.

"I know what a crisis is. I appreciate life and I never take anything for granted."

Many of Bulgaria's new rich show off their wealth with a gangster-style chic of gold chains, black Cherokee jeeps and garishly coloured villas.

Berbatov shuns this bling culture. Home means Blagoevgrad, a depressed former mining town in western Bulgaria.

When he visits his mum he sleeps on the battered blue sofa in the lounge like he always has.

His mother self-consciously nods at the shiny new Honda Civic parked in the yard outside, a recent birthday present from her son.

"I am very proud of him. What makes me really happy is we always talk after every game. I text him during the match, maybe when he's scored a great goal.

"That waymy message is waiting for him when he finishes. He tells me I am the world's greatest mum."

Off the pitch Berbatov is well known as a sponsor of childrens' charities. At the Blagoevgrad children's home, director Yevgenia Yordanova says Berbatov's donations feed and clothe their 74 underprivileged kids.

"His help means these children eat properly. Without him we would struggle. He's a role model," she said.

Berbatov supports five care homes. And in a country where a specialist children's hospital was closed down because the council couldn't afford to cover the electricity bill, private donations are a lifeline to Bulgaria's estimated 30,000 forgotten children.

Even as an up-and coming player in 2001, Berbatov covered the cost of a life-saving liver transplant for a sick girl. And he recently paid out for 500 pairs of trainers so deprived kids didn't go barefoot.

It is ironic given Berbatov's first transfer fee in 1998 when he moved from local team FC Pirin to CSKA Sofia in 1997 was part-funded by 20 pairs of football boots.

Margarita says Berbatov finds strength from his belief in the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

"When he left for England he carried a Bible I gave him. I pray for him before every game."

Berbatov is an artist off the pitch as well as on it. He once painted a mural of his football idols across the ceiling of his bedroom.

"Dimitar spent hours to complete the paintings. He was obsessed with showing all his favourite players from Pele to Michael Owen."

Berbatov spent childhood holidays in the desperately poor farming village of Marikostinovo on the Bulgaria-Greek border. Every summer he returns there. His proud grandparents Dimitar and Verka, 76, have turned their single storey cottage into a virtual shrine, their home's bare stone walls are covered with press cuttings and posters.

Dimitar senior, a footballer in his youth, is a close confidante of his grandson. They chat and dig the vegetable garden together when his grandson drops by to sample a bowl of his grandmother's homemade potato soup.

"Dimitar told me his future is in England," he said. "He believes he deserves to play Champions League football because that is his level of talent."

School-mate Mario Bekov said: "We wanted Dimitar as goalkeeper.

It was our attempt to stop him controlling the game. It failed - like a ghost he would appear everywhere! We called him the magician."

Berbatov plans to open a foot ball academy in his hometown to give youngsters a chance of a better life in the EU's poorest country, where the average wage is £160 a month.

It also offers a chance for Premier League scouts to save their clubs a fortune if they find the next Berbatov.
